Greer Post #11 American Legion Auxiliary

Greer Unit #11, American Legion Auxiliary held their monthly meeting March 21, 2024 at the Post Home with 10 members present.

The meeting was called to order by President Linda Youngbluth. The opening prayer was read by Chaplain Margie Stone. The Pledge of Allegiance and American Legion Auxiliary Preamble were recited in unison.

The minutes of the previous were read and approved.

The treasurer's report was given and approved.

Membership chairman Barbara Kucera reported that we have 76 paid members. Goal is 85.

Correspondence was read from District 8 President Karen Richlieu.

Thank you was read from the Norma Horner family.

Community Service chairman reported appropriate cards had been sent.

Kathy Geiman made motion that the prize amounts for essays be $20 for 1st place; $15 for 2nd place; and $10 for 3rd place, seconded by Barbara Kucera. Motion carried. The winner for the essays are as follows: 1st place-Emma Kreeger; 2nd place - Ravyn Medricky and 3rd place - Trasin Diltz. The theme this year was 'What does freedom mean to me.'

Presley Slaba will be Girl Stater for 2024.

The auxiliary will have a table at the Wagner Farm, Home and Garden show April 4, to inform people about who can belong to the auxiliary and benefits.

Poppy posters and colored pictures done by school students will be judged at the April meeting.

Easter cards will sent to active military and veterans and auxiliary members in nursing homes or home bound.

Final details, for the soup and sandwich luncheon, bake sale and raffle April 11, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., were discussed. Letters and raffle tickets were handed out to members present and others will be mailed to auxiliary members.

The District 8 Spring meeting will be held in Yankton April 6. Lunch will be served at 11 a.m., meeting at 12:30 p.m. Unit #11 will be doing the memorial service for auxiliary members who have passed away this last year. Dolores Kotab made a motion to purchase live flowers to use for the memorial service, seconded by Kathy Geiman. Motion carried.

State convention will be held in Pierre June 20-23.

Dolores Kotab read an article on Rosie the Riveter as March 21 is known as Rosie the Riveter Day.

The basket was won by Barbara Clemens and donated back to the children and youth fund.

The Auxiliary charter was draped in memory of Norma Horner by President Linda Youngbluth and Chaplain Margie Stone.

As there was no further business to come before the meeting chaplain Margie Stone read the Prayer for Peace and President Linda Youngbluth adjourned the meeting.
