American Legion Greer Post #11 held its monthly meeting on June 15, 2023 with two guests in attendance, John and Don Slaba. Also in attendance was one Boys Stater, Dan Soukup. Americanism Officer Don Kotab had Dan Soukup give a report on his activities at Boys State this year. Dan thanked the Post allowing him to attend the Boys State Convention. Commander Clayton Rados thanked the cooks for the delicious meal. Chaplain Don Kotab gave the invocation which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion was recited by all members. Commander Rados then called the meeting to order.
Minutes – Jay Youngbluth read the minutes of our last meeting as Adjutant Dave Isebrands was absent. The minutes were approved as read.
Treasurer’s Report – Treasurer Dan Gruenewald gave the treasurer’s report with the report approved as read.
Americanism – Americanism Officer Don Kotab stated he is already working on next year’s Boy State now that this year’s convention is over.
Bingo – No report. Baseball – Athletic Officer Jerry Seiner was unable to be in attendance for his report. It was discussed that two people are needed at the gate for the home game this Friday. Jay Youngbluth and Bruce Specketer volunteered. The Tuesday home game on July 20th, Clayton Rados and Tony Krcil volunteered while Dennis Clemens and Paul Kucera volunteered for the home game on Thurday July 22nd.
Service Officer – Service Officer Merle Stone gave his report.
Legion Riders- Collier Wiese and Dave Isebrands rode to Chamberlain on the 9th to plan out the annual Veterans’ Ride on Labor Day weekend.
Old Business- Commander Rados thanked everyone who helped with the Memorial Day program. A note from Jerry Seiner stating that the Wagner Post had issues with the photos and article that he had sent them and somehow had used pictures from two years ago. He also thanked the members for taking the Jeep to Fish Days. The roofing project is done except for a small potion on the south side. Clayton Rados, Bob Kucera, Jay Youngbluth and Greg Geiman all attended the state convention with Courtney Steffen of Madison elected as new state commander. Amanda Bechen is working on our tax forms. Any penalties incurred will be covered by insurance.
New Business- There were no volunteers to take the Jeep to the Czech Days parade. Dennis Clemens read a thank you from the boys who attended Boys State. He also read a thank you from Ava Podzimek for the scholarship she was awarded.
Veterans Service Officer – Veterans Service officer was not present for his report but had a report read. In the note, he stated he has been working with the VA and the Wagner Community Hospital to get the Mental Health Clinic here to get approved for veterans. It is a slow process but when approved will afford our veterans counseling when needed without having to travel a great distance.
Chaplain Don Kotab gave the final prayer and we closed in due form.
