Greer Post #11 American Legion
American Legion Greer Post #11 held its monthly meeting on July 15 at the Post Home. Commander Clayton Rados called the members to attention at 8:00 p.m. There were 26 members present with one new member, Dan Rezac. Chaplain Donald Kotab gave the invocation, which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion was recited by all members. Commander Rados had previously thanked the cooks for the fine meal and then called the meeting to order.
Commander Rados read the minutes of the last meeting with one update, the brat/hamburger feed at the Wagner Super Foods parking area will be on August 6 th and not July 30 th . The minutes were then corrected and approved.
Treasurer Dan Gruenwald passed out the account transactions and balances for Greer Post #11. All bills have been paid. Greg Mathis made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report as presented. The motion was seconded by Greg Geiman with the motion being carried.

Merle Stone, Service Officer, gave sick call and relief.
Legion Riders – Bruce Specketer and Jay Youngbluth, both accompanied the State Commander Nelson on the Commander’s 605 Ride for Vets. The Post and the Legion Riders made contributions to the South Dakota American Legion Foundation. Everything went well on the ride. Bruce and Jay also rode their bikes in the parade on July 3 rd in the Menno parade.
The Post will post the colors on July 23 rd at the race track for the first responders’ night. After wards, the post will sell the 50/50 tickets.
Commander Rados thanked the ladies for cleaning the kitchen. Commander Rados also thanked Rick Zolnowsky and Jerry Seiner for putting in the new LED lights in the kitchen.
Greer Post #11 received recognition at the state convention for the donation to the Honor Flight Program. The Post also received a plaque for being chosen first place for the best newsletter. We have a new state commander, Commander Gary Wolkow of DeSmet. Greg Geiman elected as the new state Sergeant At Arms.
We will need to check with the Wagner Super Foods and Buches, for the supplies for Labor Day.
Jerry Seiner gave a very informative talk on things covered through the Veteran Service Office. Topics discussed were scholarships, Honor Flights and VA eligibility and pre-burial at the State and Federal cemeteries. If there are any questions, contact Jerry Seiner, our area Veteran Service Officer.
Thank You’s were received from Gene Niehus, MacKenzie Roberts, from Jay Youngbluth and from DD Youngbluth’s nephew and from Vernon Bures.
The tile in the bathrooms, kitchen and hallways will be considered for replacement. Commander Rados will get bids on the replacement costs and report back at next month’s meeting. Winner of the monthly drawing was Jerald Ehrisman while Leo Soukup was the six month winner.
