Greer Post #11 American Legion held its monthly meeting April, 15, 2021 at the Post Home. Commander Robert Kucera called the members to attention. Chaplain Donald Kotab gave the invocation, which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion was recited by all members. Adjutant Rados read the minutes of the March meeting, which were approved as read.
Committee reports were given as follows: Dan Gruenwald distributed a financial report for the month of March to members which was approved as given. Americanism: Don Kotab reported 11 students have applied for the 4 $500 Legion scholarships. We only have 1 student going to Boy's State. Students have until May 1st to apply for Boys State, Baseball: Jerry Seiner reported Sam Metzcar is trying to get an American Legion team together. He will send money in for insurance and registration. We will get back if we don't have a team. A player has to go to the closest Legion Post. Bingo: Commander Kucera reported we did very well on Bingo. He thanked all the members who worked.
Service officer: Merle Stone gave sick call & Relief.
Commander Kucera called for a moment of silence for past state commanders Don Young and Richard Hovorka.
Legion Riders: Jay Youngbluth reported they will have a big biker run June 16th-19th they will start out in Spearfish and Jay will call our Post when they will be coming through Wagner, will need coffee and cookies.
Adjutant Rados read several thank yous from Margarette Schuurmans, Paul Wiechman family and Paul Stogsdill family. Clayton also gave the 2021 Annual Sweepstakes report, we did very well. He also thanked all who sold and bought tickets also all who worked that night in the lunch stand and bar. Also all those on the sweepstakes committee.
Vice commander Dennis Clemens reported the moving wall will be in Herrick on April 24th - 27th.
Jerry seiner reported he is going to update the Past commanders board. He also reported Dana Sanderson is trying to get Yankton Sioux Tribe, area businesses and individuals themselves to get together to make the 605 unity J.A.M. A big success.
Veterans service officer, Jerry Senior reported all Co-Payments from April 6, 2020 till September 30th, 2021 will be waved. If you did not get a refund call him. Jerry reported the VA is providing Covid-19 vaccinations, to veterans, employees and spouses.
The national processing center is way behind and only processing emergency requests, for burial honors. Life threatening medical emergencies and homeless veterans. He also reported you should locate your DO214 or NGB-22 in case you would need it to get an American Flag once you are gone. Adjutant Rados gave out several go-getter pins and honor guard pins.
Election of officers: for commander: Jay Youngbluth nominated Clayton Rados 2nd by Dennis Clemens Merle Stone made a motion nominations cease and cast a unanimous ballot for Clayton 2nd by Melvin Horner vice commander: Robert Kisely nominated Dennis Clemens 2nd by Merle Stone. Rest of officers will be appointed. VFW is in charge of Memorial Day services. Merle Stone reported Rick Zolnowsky adjusted restroom doors and Pat Stoppers no charge. Thank you rick.
