Greer Post #11 American Legion
Greer Post #11 American Legion held its monthly meeting October 18, 2018 at the Post Home. Commander Robert Kucera called the members to attention. Chaplain Donald Kotab gave the invocation which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion was recited by all members.
Adjutant Clayton Rados read the minutes of the October 18 meeting which were approved as read.
The cooks for the evening were given a nice round of applause for the excellent Thanksgiving supper.
Committee reports were given as follows: Treasurer Dan Gruenwald distributed a financial report for the month of October to all members. Vice Commander Dennis Clemens gave the report which was approved as given. Americanism: Don Kotab reported on the Flag Retirement class they had by the football field, one class for middle school and one class for the high school students on November 12th. Many Veterans went to the Wagner Community School's Veterans Program at 2:30 p.m. Always a very good ceremony.
Jerry Seiner reported the VFW gave the fifth graders a class about Veterans on November 12th. Service Officer: Merle Stone gave a sick call and relief.
Legion Riders are kind of in hibernation. Dennis Clemens reported on several bids for new counter-tops in the Legion kitchen. Most members wanted a laminated top grade counter-top. Discussion was tabled until next month.
Commander Kucera reported we need more bingo players to attend Christmas Bingo on Sundays at 1 p.m. before Christmas.
Merle Stone reported he has a flat bed trailer to make an entry in the December 14th Parade of Lights. Would appreciate volunteers to help.
Adjutant Rados reported annual sweepstakes committee will meet November 25th after bingo in Post Home.
Jay Youngbluth went to a dedication at Mitchell Corn Palace on veterans. They are putting a mural of an old submarine and a mural of the new submarine SSN 790 now nuclear submarine, the USS South Dakota.
The State Legion has a new Harley Davidson motorcycle out at Sturgis with one key on the USS South Dakota to any sailer assigned to the USS South Dakota to ride only in state.
Jerry Seiner reported Veterans Day Raffle winners were Miko Kotab, Dan Rezac and Lenny Kocer.
Received a thank you from South Dakota Community Foundation for the $500 we gave to South Dakota State Veterans Cemetery Fund. Also a thank you from Twin Rivers Old Iron Association in Delmont for taking American Legion Jeep to their parade.
Chaplain Kotab gave the final prayer. The meeting was adjourned in due form.
