Greer Post #11 American Legion
Greer Post #11 American Legion held its monthly meeting on September 18, 2019 at the Post Home. Commander Robert Kucera called the members to attention. Chaplain Donald Kotab gave the invocation, which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion was recited by all members.
Guests were several ladies who work for days at the annual Cancer Walk Rummage Sale held twice a year at the armory.
The Legion Riders presented the Cancer Walk with a $500 check, which they raised by working at the Super Foods brat feed on Friday. Also, many received from the Labor Day ride.
Adjutant Rados read the minutes of the August meeting, which were approved as read. Commander Kucera thanked the cooks for a delicious meal.
Committee reports were given as follows: Dan Gruenwald distributed a financial report for the month of August to members, which was approved as given. Americanism: Don Kotab reported he has met with Vanessa about upcoming Legion Programs, oratory, boys-state and youth trooper academy. Don also talked to Neil Goter about Veterans Day Program.
Bingo was kind of slow over Labor Day weekend. Commander Kucera reported Christmas Bingo will start November 3. Service Officer: Merle Stone gave sick call and relief. Merle also reported Joe Stedronsky should be back in Wagner very soon.
Vice Commander Dennis Clemens read a thank you card from the Jim Reinbold family for the Military Services and a $50 donation. Bruce Specketer reported on the Legion Riders Labor Day ride to Nebraska. They checked out the Spencer Dam and had a very good ride.
Margarette Schuurmans gave a very generous donation to replace several of the worn veterans flags flown in the park. We had a moment of prayer for Arnold Horner and Linda Kaylor who are in the hospital.
Eugene Dressler reported his is going on the next Honor Flight September 24. His son Todd will be going with him. Dennis Clemens reported Pickstown’s Legion Post is having a dance to raise money for new flags. Dance is October 13 from 7-12p.m., tickets are $20 for two people. Dennis also said you have to sign up for Agent Orange exposures.
Dennis reported on Community Care Program by Tri-West if you want to go to your own doctor, your VA doctor has to approve. You can go to local hospital if it’s your only option.
Bruce Specketer reported October 7 is Flu Shot day at the VA Clinic. District #8 Fall District meeting will be in Wagner September 19 with social at 5p.m., meeting at 6p.m. and lunch to follow the meeting. Sons of the American Legion Commander will also be here to meet with members of the Sons of the American Legion.
Jerry Seiner reported it takes a long time to get authorized to get into the Hot Springs Veterans home. John Havranek thanked the Legion for posting the colors at Wagner Speedway. VFW has a gun raffle going on. $20 a chance.
Chaplain Kotab gave the final prayer. The meeting was adjourned in due form.
