Greer Post #11 American Legion held its monthly meeting on August 15, 2019 at the Post Home. Commander Robert Kucera called the members to attention. Chaplain Donald Kotab gave the invocation, which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion was recited by all members.

Guests of the American Legion were the Wagner Junior American Legion baseball team and their coaches, Josh Janis, Tony Bruguier and Sam Metzger. They won third place in the State Tournament. They also received the Best Sportsmanship Award plaque from state, very awesome season!

Ajutant Clayton Rados read the minutes of the July meeting which were approved as read.

Commander Kucera thanked the cooks for a very delicious meal.

Committee reports were given as follows: Treasurer Dan Gruenwald distributed a financial report for the month of July to all members which was approved as given. Americanism: Don Kotab reported the need for more American Legion members to get on the Honor Guard. Don said the avera age of the veterans on the Honor Guard is often older than the deceased veteran. Service officer: Merle Stone was not present. Athletic officer: Jerry Seiner reported on the great seasson of the Junior legion baseball team and gave a motion to give $500 addition to the regular coaches salary. Jerry thanked all who helped in anyway.

Dave Isebrands reported Joe Stedronsky fell and broke his hip and the VA Clinic in Sioux Falls today.

Commander Kucera reported the Mary Chrans family will do bingo in the Legion Post all three days of Labor Day.

Legion Riders: Bruce Specketer reported on the Centennial Ride the beginning of August. The Legion Riders will serve brats and hamburgers August 16 at Super Foods at noon. Half of the proceeds will go to Wagner's Cancer Walk. Legion Riders will have a big ride over Labor Day.

John Havranek reported Wager Speedway will have a Miliary and First Reponsders Night on August 16. The Legion are the post the colors before the races.

Jerry Seiner reported we put up Legion food stand August 30 at 5 p.m. on Main Street, after that we put up flags in the City Park for Labor Day weekend.

Discussed purchasing flags for the five services in Wagner's Service Memorial in the Park.

Commander Kucera reported that Wagner Legion Post will host the district #8 Fall District meeting on Friday, September 13, social at 5 p.m., meeting at 6 p.m. The Auxiliary will provide snadwiches and desserts after meeting.

Commander Kucera reported Congress has passsed a new law that all veterans since 1941 that were in the military may join the legion.

Discussed on helping the festival in the park with $100 to help with the program.

Jay Youngbluth reported the Veteran's Home in Hot Springs will be rededicating the Veteran's Home there on September 20. Jay also reported Paul Weidenbach said the new South Dakota State Veteran's Cemetery will have their ground-breaking ceremony on September 9 at 9 a.m.

At the State Fair on August 29th, Veterans get in free at 10:30 a.m. Veterans have a presentation.

Chaplain Don Kotab gave the final prayer.
