Greer Post #11 American Legion held its monthly meeting on May 16, 2019 at the post home. Commander Robert Kucera called the members to attention. Chaplain Donald Kotab gave the invocation, which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. All members recited the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion.

Adjutant Clayton Rados read the minutes of the April meeting, which were approved as read.

Commander Kucera thanked the cooks for a delicious meal.

Treasurer Dan Gruenwald distributed a financial report for the month of April to all members, which was approved as given.

Americanism: Don Kotab reported he has sent in the Americanism report. Boys state will be May 27th thru 31st, at Northern State University. Those going are Chance Blaha, Preston Nedved, Corbin Johnson, and Grant Namminga.

Baseball: Jerry Seiner reported Josh Janis our Legion Coach has all games and tournaments scheduled, and is working on getting umpires scheduled. Commercial State Bank donated 24 baseball caps at $25 a cap. They have a “W” on the front and Commercial State Bank on the back. Home games will be teeners 1st and Legion’s 2nd game. Wagner city counsel gave both teeners and legion $500.00 each for this year’s baseball season.

Service officer: Merle Stone gave sick call and relief. Leo Soukup reported that Russell Brown has donated a hydraulic bed and other handicap articles for other veterans to use.

It was discussed on going to Fish Day Parade and Check Day Parade, will try to take Legion jeep and some Legion Riders.

Commander Kucera reported he has speaker and all the other people lined up for this years Memorial Day services May 27th 10 am in the Armory. Legion will have dinner at the Legion building after Memorial Day services. VFW and American Legion Auxiliary’s will bring a salad or desert. We are so fortunate that we have so many awesome people to help with the Memorial Day Program and Dinner afterwards.

Veteran’s service officer: Jerry Seiner reported a veteran ID card will get you discounts offered to veterans at many stores and restaurants. You need your DD 214 discharge document, Drivers License, Color photo of yourself and social security number. Jerry will help get a veteran ID card for you by calling him at 487-7691. Jerry also said volunteer drivers are urgently needed to drive the DAV van to and from Veterans Affairs Medical Facilities.

Awards were given to Veterans who have signed up a new member this year.

Bomgaars will give 10% discount to all veterans.

Bob Soukup went on the Last Honor Flight with his grandson, Jared. Bob said it was a very awesome experience and that Jared will come to the American Legion meeting June 20th to give more details. There is a Honor Flight for Vietnam veterans going to Washington this October. This year’s Go-Getter Banquet at State Convention in Sioux Falls Friday June 7th. Need to RSVP by May 24th.

Merle Stone swore in new officers of the American Legion.

Harris Haar reported that his wife Sharon Haar has donated 5000 hours to the VA Clinic.

Chaplain Don Kotab gave the Final Prayer.
