Greer Post #11 American Legion
Greer Post #11 American Legion held its monthly meeting on April 18, 2019 at the Post Home. Commander Robert Kucera called the members to attention. Chaplain Donald Kotab gave the invocation, which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion was recited by all members.
Guests were Josh Janis and Tony Bruguier. They will be coaching our Junior American Legion Baseball team. Students must be 17 years old and younger. Josh Janis reported on his plans for this baseball season. First game will be May 29th and ran through July 15th. They have 14 games scheduled and some tournaments. State tournament will be in Madison. Games in Wagner will be teener game first and Junior American Legion game 2nd. Teeners will run lunch stand. Coach will get $1,000.00 and maybe a bonus at the end of the season. Sam Motzjer will help coach. Jerry Seiner is working on a grant from the city for the baseball season. Should be an awesome season.
Adjutant Clayton Rados read the minutes of the March meeting which were approved as read.
Commander Kucera thanked the cooks for a delicious meal.
Treasurer Dan Gruenwald distributed a financial report for the month of March to all members, which was approved as given.
It was reported we need to make sure our 990 tax exempt status is updated.
Americanism: Don Kotab reported entry fee of $200.00 each boys stater has been paid.
Chance Blaha will be given $200.00 to drive the four boysstaters to Aberdeen.
Four American Legion scholarships in the amount of $500 each were awarded to Haley Drapeaux, Britney Krcil, Joanna Soukup and Kristin Roth.
Jerry Seiner reported teener baseball age is 14 years old and younger. Junior American Legion team is 17 years old and younger.
Bingo: Commander Kucera reported we made $1300.00 for Easter Bingo. Bob thanked all who worked and played the seven Sundays.
Service Officer: Merle Stone gave sick call and relief.
Legion Riders have a big ride in August. Details at a later date.
Vice Commander Dennis Clemens reported kitchen counter tops have been completed and look good. One stop to glue yet.
Greg Geiman, District #8 Commander reported the Spring District meeting in Yankton was well attended by Greer Post #11 members.
Boys-state orientation will be in Tyndall on May 5th.
Leo Soukup reported Russell Brown has wheel chair, bed and other things someone may need.
State Convention will be in Siuox Falls June 6-9, 2019.
Commander Kucera called for election of officers. Nominated and appointed were as follows.

Thank you cards were received from Jay Schoenebaum for sweepstakes prize, John Bucholz Family for our military rights, Delbert Beeson Family also donated $100 to Legions Memorial Fund. Also would like to thank Mike & Deb Fredrich, Dick & Ann Rysavy and Ron Andersh for donating their sweepstakes prizes back to Legion.
Commander Kucera reported American Legion is in charge of this year’s Memorial Day services. Bob has Betty Vaughn as speaker and is working on rest of the program.
Jerry Seiner: Veterans Service Officer reported on VA Health Care has a very good program on hearing aids and eye care. Next honor flight will be May 7th with three local veterans going: Bob Soukup, Ben Slama and Ed Kafka.
Chaplain Don Kotab gave the Final Prayer. The meeting was adjourned in due form.
