GRADUATES PURCHASE LOCAL BUSINESS

Jill (Bertus) and Devin Tolsma both grew up in Avon and are now alumni of Avon High School. Devin graduated in 2015 and continued his education at Mitchell Technical College. Jill graduated two years later in 2017 and also went to Mitchell Technical College. After their two years at college, they took into consideration how they could utilize their degrees in or around Avon. They both knew they wanted to stay in Avon because they grew up here, and all their family lives here. “Avon has always been home and always will be,” Jill said.

They both had jobs in Avon before they took over the locker with two of their friends, Logan and Aly Powers. Jill worked at the school and helped out at the Flower Shop while Devin was a hired farm man. They had heard the locker was going up for sale and joked around about buying it...until that joke became reality! Devin, Jill, Aly, and Logan put many long hours of decision-making into the purchase of the Avon Locker, which is now known as Southside Meats. “We knew that there was a demand in the meat industry and didn't want to lose a business on main street, so what better way to help than purchasing the locker in our home town!” Jill said.

Devin and Jill both love their small home town and hope one day to have a family here. They want to raise their kids to love Avon and the amazing community as much as they did!
