GOLDEN WEST ANNOUNCES 2021 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

By

High school seniors residing in the Golden West Telecommunications service area can now apply for one of 46 scholarships available to qualifying students. Now in its 23rd year, the Golden West scholarship program awards $1,000 scholarships to help offset tuition costs for graduating seniors who pursue secondary education degrees. Golden West selects one recipient from each of the high schools within its exchange. An additional at-large scholarship is awarded to a student whose parents receive Golden West services but is either homeschooled or attends a high school outside the service area.

Golden West General Manager and CEO Denny Law said the scholarship program encourages students living in rural communities to pursue opportunities that might otherwise be unavailable to them.

“Golden West is committed to providing scholarships to help graduates in our rural communities gain a valuable higher education. We consider it an investment in tomorrow’s leaders,” Law said.

To be eligible for a scholarship, the applicant must be a high school senior whose parents or legal guardians reside within a Golden West service area and subscribe to Golden West phone or internet service. The applicant must take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), American College Test (ACT) or Accuplacer Vocational Entrance Exam by December 31 of their senior year and enroll in 12 or more classroom credits (or the equivalent of a full-time course load) in the fall semester following their high school graduation. Committees overseen by each school’s superintendent and/or principal will select local scholarship winners, while a committee of Golden West employees will choose the at-large recipient.

Golden West scholarship applications are available from guidance counselors at local high schools and at-large applications may be requested by calling 855-888-7777 or visiting goldenwest.com/scholarships. The application deadline is Monday, March 15.
