FRIGHTFULLY DELIGHTFUL ON SECOND STREET

By
Alyssa Mathis

Anyone who has driven by the Bellings' house on 2nd Street, knows that at least one member of their residence loves Halloween, but in this case it is both Patrick Belling and Kesa Alexander that have an affinity for the Halloween season. The house is decorated with large Halloween themed décor including skeletons, a life-size Michael Myers figure, an inflatable Freddy Kruger, headstones, lights, slide show of horror movie characters and scenes, an inflatable Frankenstein and Michael Myers that is taller than the house, ghosts, a life-size Leatherface figure, inflatable zombie, pumpkins and an array of other inflatables and decorations. The best part of the whole scene, is that there are even more amazing Halloween decorations to see and discover inside the Bellings' home.

This is the Bellings' fourth year of doing a big outdoor display in their yard. When asked what made them want to create this fun and over-the-top display in the yard, Kesa said that it is their love of fall, Halloween, and scary movies that really inspire their decorating. It is not only the elaborate decorations and scene that is important to the pair, but they also aim to create a display to make people happy and want to enjoy it with their families.

The Bellings start setting up after the Fourth of July with the goal of being set up for the Wagner Labor Day weekend. Even though they have the majority of decorations set up, they are not usually completely done until Halloween night. The display is usually left up for at least a week after Halloween. A few factors come into play when it comes to taking down the display including the weather and motivation as it is sad for them to take it down.

Halloween night will be a special night at the Bellings' residence on 2nd street. Part of the street will be closed in order to safely allow for the Halloween House activities from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. There will be a skeleton band in the front yard that plays music. They will also be handing out bags, stuffed animals, fun toys, and candy. This year will feature eight stations of handouts. There is usually a line, but the Bellings hope it is well worth the wait. Be sure to stop by!
