FLAG BURNING CEREMONY HELD IN LAKE ANDES
June 14, 2022, Flag Day, the day deemed as a date when Flag burning ceremonies may be held across the country, found a Flag burning ceremony held in Lake Andes. The ceremony was held at 7:00 on the lot located north of the four way stop on Main Street.
The event was sponsored by the American Legion Post # 10, VFW Post # 3932, their Auxiliaries, the Lake Andes Public Library, Andes Central FFA members, and the Lake Andes Fire Department.
The night included a ceremony of retiring the flag which included unfolding a used flag and reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance. Poems about the Flag were read by Taryn and Tate Bennett. A time of silence was held as nearly 60 flags were burned. The ashes from the burnt flags were buried the following day as the ceremony instructed.
We hope to continue this tradition on Flag Days to come.
If you have flags that you would like to contribute to the Flag Burning Ceremony you may deposit them at the Lake Andes Public Library.
