FIRST TIMES AND FAMILIAR FACES IN VICTORY LANE AT WAGNER FRIDAY
The month of July went out with a bang Friday night, as the RepairableVehicles.com Tri-State Late Model Series rolled into town to join the program and there was a mix of familiar faces and first times in victory lane.
Mark’s Machinery of Wagner presented a night full of action as 67 cars signed in. The Tri-State Late Models would see one of the “first timers” on the podium, as Blair Nothdurft (Renner) began his quest from the sixth starting spot and picked up win number one on the season with the series. Couple that with then points leader Gary Brown, Jr (Brandon) being involved in an incident and not able to finish the event, Nothdurft also took over the points lead in the series.
Following Nothdurft across the stripe were former track champion Ben Sukup (Norfolk, NE), Scott Ward (Watertown), Justin Boomsma (Huron) and Jordan Heiman (Sioux Falls). The hard charger of the feature was Brad Vogt (Pierce, NE), moving up nine spots to finish ninth, and heat races were won by Blair Nothdurft, Dylan Fitzpatrick (Sioux Falls) and Ben Sukup. The Manthey Farms Sport
Compacts saw the domination continue for Conner Brown (Yankton). Brown moved up seven spots to take top honors once again, winning all four starts he has made at Wagner in 2020. Completing the top five were Ethan Knoll (Avon), Cody Feenstra (Corsica), Taylor Brown (Yankton) and Kevin Andersh (Wagner). Heat races were won by Ethan Knoll and Connor Brown.
The Roth Custom Farming Hobby Stock division would see the points leader Joey Jaton (Wagner) add to his cushion with his fourth triumph this season after starting sixth. Mike Hanson (Meckling) would start ninth and finish second, with Kaylb Brunssen (LeMars, IA) taking a top three finish. Nate DeSive (O’Neill, NE), following his win in the “B” feature, would move up nine spots to finish fourth and Bill Soles (Gregory) rounded out the top five. Heat races were won by Derrick Scott (Geddes), Joey Jaton and Justin Van Otterloo (Rock Rapids, IA)
The Ponca Valley Seeds Sport-Mods saw Kendall McCarthy (Naper, NE) see checkers for the second time in 2020, as he outdueled points leader Dudley Schroeder, Jr (Armour). Completing the top five were Logan Fernau (Creighton, NE), Kevin McCarthy (Naper, NE) and Logan McMartin (Vermillion). Kendall McCarthy completed the sweep with the feature win as he was also victorious in the heat race.
Finally, in the Butte Implement B-Mods, hometown hot shoe Logan Kafka (Wagner) would withstand challenges throughout and pick up his first career win in his B-Mod at Wagner Speedway. Tyler Myers (Alexandria) would advance seven spots to settle for the runner-up spot, Wade Wright (Ravinia) would come in third, with Camden Myers (Ethan) and Kyle Pecena (O’Neill, NE) rounding out the top five. Heat races were won by Wade Wright and Kyle Pecena.
With July in the rear-view mirror, the month of August will fly by with big wings, as all four nights in August will feature sprint cars. Beginning this Friday night, Dave’s Repair, Hollman Apiaries and H2 Honey will present DK Flooring and Custom 305 sprint cars, along with Late Models, B-Mods, Sport-Mods, Hobby Stocks and Sport-Compact Front Wheel Drives.
