The Wagner Fire Department was among seven fire departments that traveled to Avon to battle the fire that consumed Power's Furniture and Appliance Tuesday evening, March 26th. Kenny Powers spent 52 years working in the store and for son Stacey Powers, "It was our life", he commented. The phone line has currently been transfered to their home for now, until they can settle into the front of the Legion building on Main Street which they have rented to set up an office space for the time being as they decide what their next step is. This fire left a huge hole in the community and the surrounding area as they have served the people in southeastern South Dakota since 1902.
