The Wagner volleyball team enters the 2025 season with experience, depth, and a shared determination to make another run to the State tournament. Head coach Stacey Knebel, now in her 25th year, is joined by longtime assistant Kelsey DeBey (11 years) and volunteers Tracey Hopkins (2nd year) and Maggie Baumgart (1st year).
The Red Raiders bring an experienced roster anchored by key returners Ravyn Medricky (middle hitter/ blocker), Braxton Nedved (setter), Ashlyn Koupal (outside hitter/blocker), Hannah Holzbauer (outside hitter/blocker), Libby Kotab (libero), Brylie Link (right side hitter/blocker) and Hayden Knudsen (defensive specialist). Seniors Kotab, Link, and Koupal will lead a roster filled with talent across all grade levels.
Team members include, Seniors: Libby Kotab, Brylie Link, Ashlyn Koupal; Juniors: Ravyn Medricky, Braxton Nedved, Brianna Fuchs, Hayden Knudsen Mateya Bruguier, Ashtyn Bruguier, Adara Hopkins, Emma Kreeger, Katrina Brown Bear, Tessa Pazour; Sophomores: Hannah Holzbauer, Kylin Insko, Mila Hopkins; Freshman: Taelyn Knebel, Tegan Langdeaux, TyShay Medicine Bear, Izzy Myer, Ava Orozco, Valencia Big Bear; 8th Graders: Camry Link, Peytyn Wiechmann, Raeyon Fool Bull, Kymani Gullikson, Emma McNinch, Emma Turner.
The summer was packed with development, including the Harrisburg Team Camp, a local skills camp with Coach Costain, and varsity training at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Preseason focus has been on team chemistry, mental preparation, a faster offense, and versatile scoring shots.
“Our goal is to come together and compete as a team, get better each match, and make it back to State,” Knebel said.
Wagner will have its eyes on tough matches against MVP and EPJ, programs known for their competitiveness.
The team thrives on traditions like their annual lip sync battle, music-filled practices, and even themed dress-up days to keep spirits high during the grind of the season.
How do they prepare for matches: “From pregame music and goal journals to their beloved annual lip sync battle, the Red Raiders keep things loose while keeping their eyes on the prize,” commented Coach Knebel.
“This group loves to compete and play the game together,” Knebel added. “They push each other, they have fun, and they’re ready to go.”
