The Wagner boys wrestling team turned in an impressive performance at the Winner Invitational on Saturday, January
24, with eight wrestlers earning podium finishes and the team placing fourth overall in a competitive 15-team field.
Wagner finished the day with 145 team points, showcasing depth and determination throughout the meet.
Leading the way for the Red Raiders were Thayne Tjeerdsma and Gannon Knebel, who each claimed first-place finishes in their respective weight classes. Tjeerdsma took the championship at
175 pounds, while Knebel captured the title at 215 pounds.
Other podium finishers included Frank Krcil, who placed second at 113 pounds, and Bodie Chafin, who earned third place at heavyweight (285). Wade Kreeger added a fourth-place finish at 138 pounds.
Several Wagner wrestlers battled tough competition to earn sixth-place finishes, including Tom Krcil at 120 pounds, Grady Bartunek at 126, and Hunter Wiechmann at 150. Tom Krcil competed while injured, showing grit and determination to finish the tournament.
Also competing for Wagner was Wesley Holzbauer at 144 pounds and Colin Brown Bear at 190 pounds.
With strong individual performances across multiple weight classes, Wagner’s fourth-place team finish highlighted a successful day on the mat and continued momentum for the season.
