On Friday, June 20, Wagner’s Post 11 Junior and Senior Legion teams trekked up to Salem for a double header.
The junior legion took to the field first and would fall by a score of 6-0. Avery Medicine Bear was the starting pitcher and he tossed 2.2 innings. He allowed six runs, five earned, on four hits and seven walks while striking out five. Edward Ulrich then came on to toss the final 1.1 innings in the shortened five inning game. He allowed no runs on one hit and one walk while striking out two.
Wagner was quiet at the plate, collecting only two hits, those being by Medicine Bear and Brannon Bruguier. Colton Zephier would draw a walk and Ulrich and Trasin Dilts were each hit by pitches.
In the nightcap, things were reversed as the Post 11 Senior squad came out on top by that same 6-0 score. With three tournament games coming up, we used five different pitchers, keeping their pitch counts in check so they could also pitch over the weekend. They all did their part. Carter Cournoyer pitched 1.2 innings. He gave up no runs on no hits while walking one and striking out one. Joey Cournoyer, who would earn the win, was next. He pitched 1.2 innings giving up no runs on one hit and one walk. Malakai Segura followed Joey. He went 1.2 innings of scoreless baseball. He walked two and struck out one. Frank Soukup was next in line. He would also pitch the 1.2 innings. Frank walked one batter and struck out three. Dominic Doom was the last pitcher of the night. He only faced one batter and struck him out.
Offensively, Wagner got on the board in the first with three consecutive walks and a Dilts ground out. We added five runs in the 4th inning. Dilts, Doom, and Zephier all walked. Landon Mudder followed with an RBI single. Octavian Kocer then drew a walk to plate a run. Hunter Loeffler beat out an infield single followed by a Joey Cournoyer single and lastly Carter Cournoyer grounded out to force in a run to finish the scoring.
Wagner only had four hits but used eight walks to their advantage to get the win. Joey Cournoyer had two hits while Mudder and Loeffler each had one.
