10 Years Ago – 2014 Logan Mudder and Amanda Reiff were crowned AHS King and Queen at Coronation. Sammantha Schryvers won the Miss Kuchen pageant and was crowned during the Kuchen Festival. She became the first ever Miss Kuchen. Verlyn and Alice Betz celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Homecoming dress up days were Movie Day, Future Occupations, Outer Space, Throwback Thursday and Red and Gold Day. 35 Years Ago – 1989 Mr. and Mrs. Clair Brodeen entertained at a dinner and three tables of pinochle. The Monday Reading Club met at the Alma Metcalf home. The Trinity PW met September 13th. Rita Krcil called the meeting to order. The Jolly Roger Page is edited by Teresa Roth and Krissy Mensch. It is printed twice a month in the Avon Clarion. Homecoming week was a great success and lots of fun. Brian Jones and Zach Diede are new sophomores. Funeral services were held for Mrs. Lou Van Gerpen at the 1st Baptist Church. 56 Years Ago – 1968 The Homecoming parade was held Friday. The Lake Andes Eagles stopped Avon 20-21. Four inches of rain on Saturday night swamped the area. Many basements were half full of water. Parade winners were the junior class, 5th and 6th grades, ROUSE 75 and the First Baptist Church. The Avon Livestock Auction will hold a Horse Sale October 4th with 60-70 horses. 85 Years Ago – 1939 Miss Lillian Jucht returned to Yankton College. Jacob Hento and Henry Biersma left for CA to visit relatives. About 20 quail were seen behind the Community Bank this morning. Mrs. Joe Torres is again managing the Avon Hotel. See Roy Rogers at the Avon Theater on Saturday and Sunday. The Hollingsworth brothers will be returning to New York in time for the World’s Fair. 110 Years Ago – 1914 The Avon City Band gave an open-air concert on Main Street Saturday night. Avon Pennants are only 15 cents each at Hagarty’s. The 2nd annual Indian Fair will be held at Greenwood on September 29-30. There will be a parade and handiwork for sale. Do not bring checks to the Post Office to be cashed. Uncle Sam will not accept checks even if you are worth as much as a Rockefeller. Post Office hours are now 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. H.D. Lorenz of Dante had twin daughters on Tuesday
