10 Years Ago – 2014 Jacob Reeves represented South Dakota as a delegate for the National Youth Science Camp. Bernice Heusinkveld was celebrating her 90th birthday and a card shower was requested in her honor. Kevin and Naomi Kocer announced the birth of their son, Camden Kevin. The Avon Hurricane Swim team wrapped up their season at the O’Neill Swimming Championships. The Female Swimmer of the Year was presented to Carly Cushenberry and Lukkes Mudder Male Swimmer of the Year. 35 Years Ago – 1989 The old John Unruh house was moved to a location just south of Freeman. It will be used as a Bed and Breakfast and was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Russell Waltner. The Teeners dropped a Double Header to Parkston, losing 18-3 and 11-10. Hitters were Jason Alberts, Cory Van Asperen, Brad Cameron, Matt Eggers and Jim Pelton. Otto Pudwill will be having an Auction Sale on July 20th at 306 Maple. Crazy Days will be August 5th. Gigantic Kiddie Parade at 10:30 a.m. with prizes and treats. 56 Years Ago – 1968 A big 4-match Wrestling Show will be held at Avon gym August 8th. This professional show is sponsored by the Avon Chamber of Commerce. They will be serving hot dogs, popcorn and pop. John Engel will be the ring announcer. The Mets are out of the District Tourney. Crazy Days will be August 12th. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Tjeerdsma had a son born on July 28th. 85 Years Ago – 1939 Patterns are available to order for children’s play suits and sun dresses for 15 cents. Giedd’s All Stars were defeated by Nathan Pritzkau’s team. Bobby and Betty Mattis had a swimming party at Lake Tyndall followed by a delicious lunch. Dr. and Mrs. Greenfield held a Lawn Social at their home on Thursday evening. It was sponsored by the First Presbyterian Ladies Aid. The German Band provided music. The residence inside and out had small tables where the guests were served. 110 Years Ago – 1914 The Fair Store is having a July-End Clearing Sale on Friday until Saturday August 1st. Groceries and dry goods. Robert Giedd returned from summer school in Sioux Falls. Mrs. Dykstra and Gertude had a short visit at the Fred Koehn home. A picnic was held in honor of Mrs. E.M. Smith’s 70th birthday followed by a program and cake and ice cream.
