10 Years Ago – 2014 Reverend Dan Brandt was the keynote speaker at the Avon Memorial Day Program. Qualifiers for the girls’ state track are Heidi Cap, Kacie Mudder, Clara Beck, Lauren Sees, Amanda Reiff, Chesney Nagel, Cheylee Nagel. Qualifiers for the boys’ state track meet are Brandon Kocmich and Jacob Knodel. There were four generations of the Hurd family pictured including Sara Hurd, Mary Jo Monfore, Mary (Monfore) Hurd, Emily Edney and Dr. Elizabeth (Hurd) Edney. 35 Years Ago – 1989 18 seniors graduated on Sunday, Honor students were Doyle Becker and Sandi Odens. Bill Van Gerpen will speak at the Memorial Day Program on Sunday at 1:30. Bear’s Northvue Café and Quick Stop have a full-page ad for summer specials – 6 pack of pop - $2 and 6 pack of beer - $2. 12 pieces of chicken, quart of potato salad and a pint of coleslaw, and 6 buns for $12.95. All you can eat breakfast buffet for $3.99. Wednesdays – Mexican Buffet Coffee Club - $1.99 for 12 oz mug. President Polk gave a message to the nation. 110 Years Ago – 1914 The Wesleyan Methodist are having a 12-day tent meeting in town. All are welcome. Fred George and Lena Kurtz were married in May 25th. Ralph Voigt has been having trouble finding water on his place. The Avon City School closed this week. B-H Unruh will hold a two-month term of German School at the school. The tuition will be $3 for each child. The City Band is led by Lee Robinson.
