10 Years Ago – 2014 The Avon Ambulance Crew held their annual High Stakes Bingo. Brandon Kocmich, Logan Mudder and Devin Tolsma were all named to the LMVC All-Conference. Kocmich was selected to play on the Senior All-Star Game in Gregory. Chesney Nagel and Ariana Oorlog were named to the Academic All-State Team. Chesney Nagel, Ariana Oorlog and Heidi Cap were named All-Conference. The Avon Archery Club hosted a tournament. 35 Years Ago – 1989 The Straight A Honor Roll: Senior Sandi Odens and Doyle Becker, Freshmen, Wanda DeJong. A Honor Roll – Junior Tammy Hlavac and Randy Rister, Sophomore, Mark Leonard. Funeral services were held for Mrs. Dorothy Pudwill March 30th at the First Baptist Church. Many of the Avonites were involved with family dinners over the Easter holiday. 56 Years Ago – 1968 Cliff Buchholz will oppose Mayor Anger Bach in the city election. Barbara Voigt will be in the Argus Leader Spelling Contest for the 3rd time. She is an 8th grader from James School. Leo Petrik is having a Farm Sale April 3rd. There will be a Grand Opening March 30th at Mabel’s Style Shoppe. Free carnations and money prizes. Senior Spotlight – Duane Kuca- likes to shop; John Wayne-enjoys chicken and steak; Bob Hubner- likes math, science, chess and eating steak. 85 Years Ago – 1939 A baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Stub McLane on Monday. She weighed 7 pounds. A fine baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Otto Pudwill at the Hollingsworth Hospital. Donald Sattler has pink eye. School News- The Ideal Girl- Ray Reiff is waiting for a red head. James Muller is looking for a nice looking, short and full of fun girl. Butch Haenfler is looking for a dark, romantic type of girl. Milo Wepking is looking for a small dark-haired girl who is a good singer and dancer. Declam Winners: 1st and 2nd grade- Ellen Van Gerpen and Donna Mae Pudwill. Third and 4th graders were Edwin Voigt and Leora Hawkey. Fifth and 6th graders were Stanley Voigt and Robert Sullivan.
