TheannualFarmersCoop Consignment Sale was the biggest sale yet.

Twelve music students from Avon seventh through twelfth grade participated in the Area Band Festival. Selected students included Evianna Blaha, Joshua Knodel,JacobKnodel,Brianna Voigt, Nicholas Metteer, Marie Fennema, Samantha Schryvers,MichaelJohnson, Kacie Mudder, Josephine Jonas, Olivia Jurrens, Callie Berndt and Lauren Sees.

Paul and Andrea Rezac of Mesquite, TX announced the birth of their daughter Skylar Mae.

BoysStaterepresentatives were Logan Mudder, Devin Tolsma and Zach Wynia.

The Avon High School technologyprogramreceived the 2014 South Dakota Technology Education Association Program of the Year.

Local farmers, Terry and Lisa Balvin donated $2500 to the Avon School through the Monsanto Fund.

25 Years Ago – 1999

Michelle Muller was named to the Presentation College Dean’s List.

AHS band member received many superiors and the contest. Those receiving superior medals were Jill Haenfler, Jaime Finck, Sara Voigt, Mary Beth Namminga, Troy Hite and Molly Kafka.

Lenoa Lang and Oliver Kvanli were crowned Queen and King at the Meadow View Manor’s Valentine’s Day party.

June Ruppelt was named the 1999 Staff Member of the Year at the Good Samaritan Center. Charlotte Mudder was named the CNA of the Year.

Julie Brandt served as a senate page.

35 Years Ago – 1968

Mrs.GayLynnRodrigues, LeonardandAndrewofMaui areherevisitingtheLeonard Harmaceks. Andrew was honored on his 3rd birthday.

Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Schumock have a baby girl, Kara Marie, born March 19th. Grandparents are the Lloyd Reiffs.

Mr.andMrs.MarkTanzillo have a baby boy Christopher. Grandmother is Erma Dykstra.

56 Years Ago – 1968

The winners in the Ladies Bowling Tourney: Singles-1st Rosalee Sternhagen, 605; 2nd Helen Pier, 598; 3rd Cleo Reiff with 585.

Doubles – 1st Helen Pier and Clarice Reiff with 1138, 2nd Rosalee Sternhagen and Cleo Reiff with 1137.

Team in 1st was Alice Marek, Polly Sternhagen, Hilda Ulrich, Lorene Panka, and Carol Johnson.

Charmaine Muller was chosen as Girls State with Cynthia Haenfler as the alternate.

David Ridgway and Dan Van Gerpen were chosen for Boy’s State with Randy Berndt and Ronnie Brandt as alternate.

Senior Spotlight – Kathy Kocmich likes biology; Julie Andrews and fried chicken.

Francis Knoll- known as Butch, he likes to hunt, fish and play pool.

85 years Ago – 1939

The 1st President Ladies Aid has new officers; President Mrs.WilliamHolleman, Vice President- Mrs. Ted Steckler,Secretary-Mrs.J.C. Greenfield.

Mrs. Babe Giedd had a party for Darrell’s birthday.

SchoolNews–TheJuniors were the class basketball tourney.

110 Years Ago - 1914

Mrs. F.S. Pelton and children went to Delmont and will remain there until Frank can get a house to live in.

Peter Hornstra had a serious accident when he fell off a load of hay. Both of his wrists were broken.

ApartyatHenryPudwills was well attended and everyone had a good time.

John Podzimek moved onto the John Cihak farm.

Dick Jurrens had a serious runaway and Dick was thrown out of the buggy. He needed stitches in his knee.

The Giedd School has a new organ, wall maps and a water cooler for their 26 pupils.
