Lee Cole, magician/comedian, was to entertain at the Dakota Southern Cattlemen’s Association Annual Banquet. The family of Margaret Poppe requested a card shower to celebrate Margaret’s birthday. Shayna Nagel was inducted into the Eastern Wyoming College Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
35 Years Ago – March 1989
Jamie Koehn was honored with a birthday supper. Winners of the Americanism Poems: 5th grade - 1st Miriam Salazar, 2nd Jennifer Finck; 6th Grade- 1st Jennifer Johnson, 2nd Terry Becker. Jolly Roger News: The Drama Dept. will be presenting “Cheaper By The Dozen” in April. The Junior Class is selling magazines. The Seniors will leave Sunday for their senior trip. To Kansas City. Something new added to the prom this year is the Grand March. Senior Spotlight- Paul Namminga – likes cheese balls and root beer and his plans are to be rich. The gym floor was black with white lines. Today this gym is in the main building and is now the kindergarten room, 1st grade room, and the Board room on the bottom floor of the school.

The Clarion included the new proposed reorganized Avon School District. Open house on March 19th Cargill Elevator with door prizes. Open House March 23rd at Bison State Telephone Direct dialing will soon be in effect in Avon. Cozy Theater in Tyndall is showing “Sound of Music” on Thursday – Sunday. The Senior Spotlights featured Sandy Gremmert Barbara Haenfler. Sandy likes Elvis Presley, going on dates, and riding horses. Barbara likes Bobby Vinton, the Monkees and eating chicken.
85 Years Ago – 1939
The Sew-a-bit Club met at the home of Mrs. Vern Plaatje. Mrs. Leo Marek received the prize. School News: The Avon debate squad traveled to Wagner. The Avon team has 16 members. The Ideal Man: Laval Vesper- kind, 6’3”, dark and handsome. Alice Kibble -tall, blonde, senior who can dance. Norma Doren – dark and handsome and must have money at all times. June Lagendyk- preferable Dutchman, blonde, and blue eyes.
110 Years Ago – 1914
There will be a Grand Opening at the Fair Store on March 14th. We will have fair dealing, fair merchandise and fair values. Grocery Specials - Corn flakes – five cents; Pound of cookies – five cents; 3 cans of peas – 25 cents; ten pounds of sugar – 50 cents; gingham for six cents a yard; calico for six cents a yard. Don’t forget the Baseball basket supper and entertainment at the Commercial Hotel tonight. Dokes Peterson’s house burned to the ground Saturday night.
