10 Years Ago - June 12, 2013 The long awaited new street on Railway was laid this past week. Glen and Verna Jerke of Dante are celebrating their 60th Anniversary June 16th. Robert and Beverly Jelsma of Springfield are celebrating their 60th Anniversary June 12th. Jerry and Cherilyn Mudder are celebrating their 50th Anniversary June 14th. Joe and Janelle Sees of Avon announce the arrival of their son, Hudson born April 10th. Ken Crouse will be celebrating his 90th birthday June 26th. 35 Years Ago - June 1988 Sandi Odens attended Girl's State at Brookings. The Mets won and lost 2 this week. At the Crofton game, Ken Karolevitz had 5 hits and Kelly Brandt hit a home run. Dwayne and Debbie Brandt have a new daughter, Darla Alene, born May 28th. Funeral services for Rosella Wittmeier were held at Trinity Pres. Church on June 3rd. 56 Years Ago - June 1967 The temp was 90 degrees Tuesday, but at about 5 p.m. the clouds came in and in a half hour to area was drenched with over 2" of rain. Some areas southeast of town received 5-6 inches. The Norman Mattis family of Sleepy Eye spent the weekend here. Leonard's Avon Locker Specials: 3 pounds of ground beef for $1.49; beef roast 59 cents a lb., 20 pounds of potatoes 69 cents, frozen cream pie, 3 for $1. 86 Years Ago - June 1937 Mr. Koehn treated the Post Office building to a new coat of pain.. Harry Van Gerpen has moved into the rooms back of the old post office. Agner Bach is the new Standard Oil Agent. 110 Years Ago - June 1913 George Meiers came back last week. He broke his leg so the girls will have to come to see him. The Avon Boosters will make a big 100 mile drive to advertise Avon's 4th of July celebration. There are already 19 autos going.
