Concerts in the Park begin June 16th, the first of three this summer. Terry Schultz is busy cutting through cement on the bottom floor of Avon School. This part of the school is going through some major renovations. Alyson Roth of Avon High School was named recipient of the $1,000 Golden West Scholarship for 2013. Gerald Tjeerdsma is celebrating his 80th birthday June 7th. Jim and Shirley Jonkers are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary June 9th. Avon's city crew works on tearing up Railway Street. The street was in tough shape with all the truck traffic and torn up and will be concreted from Main Street through the corner by the Lumber Yard.

The Met started their season with two losses. Co-Chairmen for the Centennial Committee are Alice Marek, Trudy Crouse and Gregg Hubner. Don Voigt returned from a tour to Europe with a music group. Funeral services were held for Henrietta Pudwill May 28 at First Baptist Church. Scott and Debra Burgi have a new baby, Natalie. Grandparents are Paul and Judy Burgi.

The Mets game was rained out so will be Thursday. The addition of Don Christjans, Lennis Hofer, Don Baker, and slugger Jon Westling will put a lo of spark in the team. Danny Sternhagen was guest of honor at his 4th birthday in the Tom Sternhagen home. Kurtz Skelly Services has 4-ply Goodyear tires for $18.

Ted Fennema had the misfortune of being kicked by a horse last week, but is getting along nicely. Leslie Thesenga and wife are visiting his parents. He is planning to attend the summer term at Vermillion and will return to Mina as Supt. next fall. A new sidewalk is being laid at the First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Otto Pinnt has a new Chevrolet car. A nine pound boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Herb Pudwill. Bible School begins May 31 at First Presbyterian Church.
110 Years Ago - June 1913
A baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Pudwill on May 28th. Dick Johnson traded his western land to Dr. Greenfield for the Dante Hotel.
