10 Years Ago - Jan. 16, 2013 Services were held for Mildred Ishmael of Springfield on January 14.

Services were held for Milo 'Mike' Bartunek of Avon on January 16.

Services were held for Delores Buchholz of Avon on January 17.

Senior Spotlights on Taylor Hento and Taylor Mudder.

Pirates pick up back to back wins. Brandon Kocmich had 26 points and Logan Mudder had 18 points.

35 Years Ago - Jan. 1988 The Clarion had the old issues taken to the Springfield Prison where they will be microfilmed from 1901 to the present. Lots of old issues were lost or destroyed in the past years.

Margaret Franzen hosted the So and Co Club at a dinner at Northvue Cafe.

Pinochle Club met for dinner and cards at the Dale Reiff home Sunday. High scores went to Trudy Crouse and Clayton Fillaus.

Avon is ranked No. 3 in the State Basketball ratings.

57 Years Ago - Jan. 1967 Pirates won the BH County Tourney for the second year in a row. Bill Van Gerpen had 18 points and then 17 points on Thursday. (See photo to right) On Friday the first blizzard hit. Drifts 6-8 feet deep piled up and school was called off.

John Engel is heading the McGovern dinner sale for April 1 at the Corn Palace.

Mrs. Neil Hornstra and Mrs. William Holleman will attend the Presbytery meeting in Lennox.

Melba and Lillian Jucht entertained with music at the Lodi Business Club in California. Both girls are in school there.

110 Years Ago - Jan. 1913 It was 12 below at sunrise Tuesday. Hagarty's Drug Store has Beef Bouillon, Celery Bouillon or Turtle Soup for 10 cents.

Frank Pelton is operating Mail Route 3.

Neil Berry and Myrtle Vandeventer were married Wednesday. Social dance was held in the Opera House.
