86 Years Ago - August 1936

Services for Fred Weidenbach, age 49, were held at the German Prebyterian Church. He leaves his wife, Emma and two sons, Layton and Lawrence. He was the owner of the Weidenbach Grocery store now known as the U and I Grocery.

Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Van Gerpen left on a motor trip to the state of Washington.

Dave Radack is sporting a new Chevorlet.

Maxine Hauge arrived on the bus from Omaha for a few weeks.

Dr. and Mrs. Roland Hubner are now living in Tripp.

57 Years Ago - August 1965

Otto Pudwill, Mobil Oil agent, is retiring and transfers the dealership to young Jim Greenfield.

COLUMN RITE - "I noticed at the ball game that there were at least 25 people in the stands who thought they could have played better thanthe ball players. Too bad they weren't around when we passed out the uniforms."

Thanks to the many people who have been getting the ball park, bleachers and grandstand ready for the State Tournament.

The Clubhouse Slow Pitch team picked up 6th place at the State Tourney in Sioux Falls.

Funeral Services for James Pudwill were held at the First Baptist Church.

A farewell for Pastor Terry Naaze and family was held at the Zion Lutheran Church. They are moving to Aberdeen.

The Mets dropped their first two games in the playoffs at Tabor.

AVON LOCKER SPECIALS - Ground beef for $1.20 a pound, Spaghetti for 69 cents a package, Frozen Orange juice for 89 cents.

Lindsey Van Gerpen received Swim Team Coach of the year for the Avon Hurricanes.

Toni Luke and Matthew Grant announce their engagement. An August 4th wedding was planned.

Column Rite - Avon football moves up to 9A this year and has a tough schedule ahead of them.
