10 Years Ago - 2016 155th Engineering Co. Wagner hosted their 155th Guard Gala Mrs. Kuhlman's first grade class dressed as they were 100 years old for their 100th day of school. Senior Spotlights were Brianna Voigt and Johnathon Kopp. Lady Pirates improve to 10-4 after their blow-out game against Parkston. Leading the way was Heidi Cap, Cheylee Nagel and Kacie Mudder. A major blizzard came through the area this past week. 35 Years Ago - 1991 Rosalee Sternhagen was nominated to "Teachers Who Make a Difference". Donna Codd spent a few days here helping Otto Pudwill get moved to the Manor. 56 Years Ago - 1970 Kaylene Finck was named Betty Crocker Homemaker. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Hebner and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hebner visited the Adolph Rehurek home. Auction Sale coming up: Mrs. Vince Uherka on Saturday; Joe Haenfler on February 23rd and Mrs. Earl Ridgway on February 14th. 85 Years Ago - 1941 For the first time in the history of Avon High School, the Avon Boys won the County Tourney two years in a row. People who had never seen a basketball game before crowded into the Tyndall gym. Mrs. Dorothy Muller invited the ten boys for a splendid meal between games. Rudolph Schaefer's little boy has been very sick but is now doing better. He had a broken leg and then the flu. Lutheran ladies sponsored a farewell dinner for Mr. and Mrs. Dick Poppe and Otto who will leave soon for New York. 109 Years Ago - 1917 Fifteen Avon boys took pity on the farmers east of town and broke open the road so farmers could get to town and the mail could go. O.H. Rauch is packing Missouri River ice. This is the best money can buy. The Avon Creamery is for sale.
