10 YEARS AGO

2015

The first snow storm of the year dumped up to 9” of heavy wet snow in the Avon area with other parts of the state receiving nearly a foot.

The Avon Chamber of Commerce will hold their Annual Parade of Lights and Santa Claus Day on Saturday, November 28, starting at 6 P.M.

The “Happy Holidays” banner, taken down early last winter with some strong winds, was repaired and put back up by the Northwestern Public Service.

The Avon Presbyterian Church had a winter hat and glove drive for people that may not be able to afford them.

George & Denise (Guy) Mudder held their 40th wedding anniversary on November 28.

About 85 people celebrated the dedication ceremony of the Beethoven Wind Farm in South Dakota on Wednesday put on by the Avon Chamber of Commerce.

35 YEARS AGO

1990

The Lady Pirates earned 3rd place in the Districts. Freshman Jennifer Winckler was named LMVC All Conference. The Boy Scouts collected 600 pounds of food in Avon. Elsie Mudder was honored on her 86th birthday.

1969

A snow of 5 inches fell on Monday.

Basketball cheerleaders were chosen Monday by the Student Body.

Wrestling practice started on Wed.There are 15 high school boys, 5 Junior High boys out for Coach Syfie.

R.H. Giedd is playing on the Sioux Falls College team this year.

W.E. Health killed another wolf. Lydia Villhauer was honored on her 21st birthday. 25 young people were guests.

Mr. and Mrs. Sam Hale are the parents of triplets born on Wed.

Revival meetings are being held in Danzig for 2 weeks.
