Avon Science teacher Paul Kuhlman gets ready for upcoming school year in his new science lab thanks to grant money when he received Teacher of the Year Award and $25,000 Monsanto Grant.
Services were held for Robert Wiebenga August 7, and for Walter Einrem on August 10th.
Storm spotters have been busy this past weekend, thankfully Avon missed the bad stuff.
The Avon Fire Department responded to a baler fire August 4 at 8:00 p.m. Firefighters brought the fire under control quickly.

Girls softball grade team lost to Lesterville. Hitters were Jessica Olson, Dani Deurmier and Amy Hento.
High School girls lost 10-9 to Wagner. Hitters were Christy Voigt, Jennifer Winckler and Tami Rauch.
Rev. and Mrs. Charles Mason and Christian are moving to Beaver Creek, MN.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Buchholz of Sioux Falls were guests in the Cliff Buchholz home.

At State American Legion Tourney, Avon Juniors lost to Huron. Milo Wepking, Avon's Ace, did a fine job pitching but was backed by poor support as Avon had 4 errors.

F.A. Nellis is the owner of an .80 acre farm northeast of Avon. He now owns one of the the best 160 acres in that neighborhood. He is the former Avon High School principal.
W.W. Van Gerpen has purchased a new Ford. A new stock of wallpaper has arrived at the Burns Drug and Jewelry Co.
The Fall term at the State Normal School in Springfield opens September 26, 1916.
Oats are turning out 50-54 bushel to the acre.
