35 YEARS AGO 1990
The class of 1940 had a reunion on June 30th at the Springfield Sandbar Marina and July 1st at the Senior Center in Avon with 15 class members attending. Mr. and Mrs. Denis Meiers of CO, Beth of CO, and Brad of KS, were Avon visitors this week. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Van Gerpen were at Nashville, TN, this week. Cataract surgery was performed at St. Michaels Hospital for the first time on June 15th by Yankton's Dr. Willcockson and Dr. Sprick. Mr. and Mrs. LaVelle Meiers were honored on their 50th Wedding Anniversary on June 10th with a family dinner party.

A fire caused some damage at Northern Gas Co. The car of Bess Burns was saved. No fire got in the Bowling Alley. The Mets lost 6-5 to the Yankton Jackrabbits on Thursday but won 6-5 over Tabor on Sunday. Popma had a Home Run over the right field fence. Funeral services were held for William Holleman, age 71, at the First Presbyterian Church. The Larry Kozel's had cake and home made ice cream for Steve's 6th birthday. Kristi and Pam Mattis from Sleepy Eye, MN, spent the week with the Martin Van Gerpens.

Attorney John Engel will move into his new law office in the north half of Goehrings. Betty Lou Merkwan and Lenore Merkwan were overnight guess in the John Cahoy home. Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Voigt, Lorraine, Betty Ann and Mae Clara from George, Iowa visited relatives here this week.
