The annual Avon Science Fair was held with winners including: 6th grade – 1st place ($60) Megan Soukup and Cassie Stewart “Mystery Mold”; Junior High Physical Science – 1st place ($80) Brenden Voigt “Staying Cool”; Junior High Life Science – 1st place ($80) Evan Blaha, “What’s the Scoop on Manure?”; Junior High Group – 1st place ($80) Gabe Pohl and CalebDriesen“KeepWarm”;HighSchoolPhysicalScience–1st place ($100) Karli Johnson “Colorful Concentrations”; High School Life Science – 1st place ($100) Cheylee Nagel “How Can You Tail?”; High School Ag Awards ($40) – Tate Wynia “The Right Light”; and Junior High Ag Award ($20) – Evan Blaha “What’s the Scoop on Manure?”

TheAvon4thgradegirls’basketballteamwontheirdivision at the Bon Homme Invitational Tournament. Team members included Kimberly Tolsma, Madilyn Mudder, Paityn Radack, Brooke Knoll, Emma Yost, Gracie Small, Sarah Swier and Shalayne Nagel.

Sharon Kozel was named Legionette of the Year.

The town team, “Hoops” finished the season with a 17-1 record after beating Delmont 85-42. Mike Mudder had 40, Weber 23, and Mike Lhotek 11.

Local winners in the Hoop Shoot Contest were: 14-year girls – Jennifer Winckler; 13-year-old girls – Tami Rauch; 11-yearold girls – Kelly DeJong; 13-year-old boys – Joe Podzimek; and 12-year-old boys – Jeff Talsma.

Burglars broke into Coast-to-Coast and got away with $400 cash.

School districts that joined Avon in Charles Mix are Lone Tree 54, 56, 57, Rouse 74, 74, 77 and Lake Point 92 with part of Tripp.

Jolly Roger – Senior Spotlight – Charmaine Muller – liked Johnny Cash, to watch TV and the color orange. Jean Tjeerdsma – she liked hamburgers, fries, and the Beach Boys. Martin Boese – liked to hunt, eat pizza, and the color yellow. Linda Koehn – liked Glen Campbell, olives, liked to sew and to read.

Avon lost the first game in Districts to Menno. Avon played without three starters: Engel, Wepking and Arneson.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Jonkers were the parents of a nine-pound baby girl that was born on February 23rd.

A seven-pound son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Thaler on February 23rd.

The Bud Hornstra family moved on the Jake Kurtz farm northeast of Avon.

NOVA LITE: James and Joan Mullers moved to Tyndall. Avon went on a Speech Jamboree to Tripp.

Dr. J. B. Nelson, Dentist, opened an office in the Crosby building.

On February 23rd, a nine-pound daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Dick Jurrens.

Daisy School held a basket social on March 3rd. James School gave a play on February 25th. Ladies brought baskets.

Avon Merchantile Store had a large weekend sale.
