110 Years Ago - July 1912

Quite a band of roving gypsies came through Avon on Thursday. The women went begging and telling fortunes and the men were driving sharp bargains trading horses.

The annual Baptist picnic was postponed to Thursday because of rain. A bountiful dinner was served followed by a ball game between Avon and Monroe.

The harvest festival was a big day in Dante. A ball game was played with Ravinia and Avon. Avon won 2-0.

Dante is to have a new depot soon.

86 Years Ago - July 1936

A field in Geddes caught on fire from the hot sun and a fire burned a wheat field also due to the heat.

A 4-H Club met at the John Thesenga home. Each member is to bring one and a fourth yard of material, white thread and a thimble to the next meeting.

Adolph Hubner is here visiting from Eagle Butte.

Mr. Fred Weidenbach, business man, died after suffering with cancer.

Mr. and Mrs. Burnell Hubner have a baby boy born on July 20th.

Mr. and Mrs. Les Thesenga and baby left for their home in Mina.

57 Years Ago - July 1965

Avon will host the District 6 baseball Tourney on August 15-20.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sulivan of Rapid City were overnight guests in the Junior Schaefer home.

The Avon American Legion is hosting a cafeteria style supper on July 24th starting at 5:00. The menu is chicken, ham, potato salad, baked beans, pie and ice cream. Admission is $1 and children 50 cents. Everyone is welcome.

Northvue Bee Line Station Special - Car wash for 50 cents with and oil change. We will pick up your car and return it.

35 Years Ago - July 1987

Temps climbed to 100 degrees this week.

Bob's Welding will have a machine shop and tool auction on July 25th.

Daniel James Fathke was baptized Sunday at the Zion Lutheran Church. A dinner was held at the Otto Poppe home.

John David Carr was born on July 10th to Michelle and John Car at Phoenix.

Andrea Van Asperen was the winner of a nice bicycle at the drawing through Ron's Market.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Schuh will celebrate their 50th Anniversary with an Open House on August 2nd.

The Pee Wees won the Championship by beating Springfield 18-7, Tabor 8-4 and Tyndall 12-8. Travis Rauch pitched all three games. Their record is 12-6.

The Midgets also won the Championship by beating Scotland 15-0 in three innings, Tabor 14-10 and Menno 14-0. Pitchers were Brad Cameron, Matt Eggers and Jason Alberts. They have a 12-3 record.
