DESPITE SOME FRIGID CONDITIONS, TRACKSTERS COMPETE AT AVON INVITE

DESPITE SOME FRIGID CONDITIONS, TRACKSTERS COMPETE AT AVON INVITE

Completing tasks outdoors the past couple of weeks has not been easy or pleasant for anyone, and the track and field athletes serve as no exception. But they put on their best faces as they traveled to Avon to compete in some cold, windy, and drizzly conditions this past Friday, April 16. Both the girls and boys did well with the girls finishing in second place and the boys in third in the overall team standings.

First place finishers for the girls were Shalayne Nagel who ran the 200-meter dash in 28.82 seconds. She also won the 400 dash with a clocking of 1:06.03.

Elizabeth Woods hurdled her way to a couple of gold medals of her own as she broke the tape in both the 100 and 300 hurdles. Her 100-meter hurdle time was 18.18 while she clocked in at a 55.14 in the 300 hurdles.

Avari Bruguier was the champion triple jumper covering a distance of 30’5”.

Abby Brunsing and Kya Kjeldgaard tied for first place in the high jump as they both cleared the bar at 4’6”.

Other placers in the girls’ events were as follows:

200 Dash: Abby Brunsing- 29.29 (3rd) and Brooke Knoll- 30.85 (4th)

400 Dash: Eve Zephier- 1:10.40 (3rd)

800 Run: Alcista Dion- 2:43.27 (2nd) and Jenny Barnett- 3:00.95 (8th)

1600 Run: Jenny Barnett- 6:46.08 (5th)

400 Relay: Mya Kuhlman, Avari Bruguier, Madi Knebel, and Brooke Knoll- 59.95 (8th)

800 Relay: Emily Robertson, Aubrey Medricky, Sabrina Kreber, Arianne Gabato- 2:12.73 (7th)

High Jump: Shona Kocer- 4’4” (T4th)

Long Jump: Avari Bruguier- 13’ 5 ½” (2nd) and Madi Knebel- 11’6 ¼” (8th)

First place finishers for the boys were Malcolm Janis who won the long jump with a leap of 19’2”. The only other gold medal winners were the boys 3200-meter relay team consisting of Toby Zephier, Riley Roberts, Simon Freier, and Henry Hayward. They won with a time of 9:09.15.

Other placers in the boys’ events were as follows:

100 Dash: Malcolm Janis- 11.94 (4th) and Matt Link- 12.25 (6th)

200 Dash: Malcolm Janis- 25.04 (3rd)

400 Dash: Lael Young- 58.18 (4th) and Myles Kokes- 1:00.05 (5th)

800 Run: Simon Freier- 2:16.66 (2nd) and Riley Roberts- 2:24.85 (4th)

1600 Run: Michael Barnett- 5:26.98 (5th) and Eddy Hayward- 5:28.99 (6th)

3200 Run: Eddy Hayward- 11:56.41 (3rd) and Michael Barnett- 11:59.67 (4th)

300 Hurdles: Chris Nelson- 47.24 (2nd)

400 Relay: Matt Link, Jhett Breen, Toby Zephier, Chris Nelson- 48.73 (5th)

800 Relay: Karstyn Lhotak, Jhett Breen, Tanner Krcil, Toby Zephier- 1:49.36 (7th)

1600 Relay: Henry Hayward, Ted Slaba, Myles Kokes, Lael Young- 4:09.47 (4th)

Medley Relay: Colby Krcil, Tanner Krcil, Derek Drews, Vince Bechen- 4:43.46 (7th)

Shot Put: Braxton Knudsen- 34’ 8 ½” (8th)

Discus: Braxton Knudsen- 97’ 11 ½” (5th)

Triple Jump: Vince Bechen- 31’9” (5th) and Caleb Zephier- 29’8” (6th)

Final Team Results for the girls were:

Kimball/White Lake 141, Wagner 115, Bon Homme 99, Corsica-Stickney 66, West Sioux Community 58, Viborg-Hurley 53, Avon 50, Tripp-Delmont Armour 45, Colome 15, and Andes Central/ Dakota Christian 5

Final Team Results for the boys were:

Viborg-Hurley 152.5, West Sioux Community 136, Wagner 110, Bon Homme 100, Colome 73, Kimball/ White Lake 53, Avon 24.5, Corsica-Stickney 22, Tripp-Delmont Armour 12, Andes Central Dakota Christian 10
