CULTURAL PRIDE TO BE SHARED AND LEARNED FROM

The 605 Unity JAM, which will be held on Sunday, June 13, will feature a variety of activities during the day that will be entertaining and interesting, but none more interesting than the chance to listen to from people who want to share what they know about their own culture. This will be a chance to help others get the chance to learn who you are and why your cultural heritage matters.

To date, several people have stepped forward to tell us they want to be a part of this event so they can finally get the chance to share some interesting information about the cultural language, values, music, dance and foods they have grown up with and are proud of. Often we see t-shirts and caps that say something about cultural pride, but to often that is all we get to see. This will be a chance to actually learn something about a culture beyond a t-shirt or cap. If you or a couple of your family or friends want to be a part of this great opportunity to share some of your culture please contact us as soon as possible so you can be a apart of this great day. Contact Dana Sanderson at ( danasanderson51@gmail.com ) or call at 605-491-0804 and let us know. The programing details for the day event is being put together now and will conclude soon so please do not delay if you are thinking about sharing what you know about your culture. The presentations are intended to be shared in a small group setting, such as 10-20 people in a half circle listening to what you have to share and then be able to ask questions about things them may have always wondered about. At the present time we have people offering to share language, food tasting items, how to make certain traditional foods, traditional dress, music, dance and song. There is never to much to share. Consider bringing information and items to touch or taste or make that are tied to your culture. Show us what real cultural pride is! It is time to step beyond presenting only a cap or t-shirt!
