National Nurses Week is celebrated annually from May 6th through May 12th. The Wagner Community School is lucky to have Stephenie Cuka as their school nurse. Stephenie has been a nurse for the past 31 years, 24 of those years being as a school nurse. For Stephenie what made her want to be a school nurse is that she has always wanted to work with children but did not feel that being a teacher was her calling. When she went into nursing, she knew that she wanted pediatrics, so when a school nurse position finally opened, she was thrilled to get the best of both worlds.
What Stephenie enjoys the most about the nursing field is that there is always something new to learn and the different day to day challenges. The best part of Stephenie’s workday at WCS is being able to make kids smile after they have been hurt and all the sticky-fingered hugs she receives throughout the day. The most challenging part of being a school nurse for Stephenie is not having other nursing staff or doctors to go to with questions or for second opinions.
Stephenie is married to her husband, Roger. The couple has two daughters Alaina, who is married to Keegan, and Breanna. When Stephenie is not busy with work, she enjoys reading, and doing anything outside including yardwork, gardening, boating and riding horses.
Thank you, Stephenie, for your dedication and the care you give to the Wagner Community School’s students.
