CREATE UNITY AND BUILD COMMUNITY

By
Dana Sanderson

The 605 Unity J.A.M. will be held in Wagner on Sunday, June 13 at the Wagner Lake. The event is being organized by several caring people within our community that want to help bring our community together to in a positive way. This is especially important after dealing with the health difficulties of this past year. There are a variety of reasons for holding this event, but the primary reasons include the importance of increasing cultural awareness and appreciation for all cultures in our area. Another is to help build positive relationships locally and between communities. We also want to help promote Wagner Lake as a positive community asset in our area and encourage people to come check out our community.

The Unity Planning Committee is working to build partnerships within the community that requires active involvement. The committee Invites all parts of our community to come together and help us in accomplishing the goal of making this event a success for our community. The group is working to create an activity for everyone to feel welcome to attend and participate. We want to help build community through the active involvement of local organizations, agencies, churches, volunteers and businesses all working together to make a true community event.

We have determined that the event will take a total of 96 volunteers throughout the day to make it run smooth. The goal is to make the work and time involved as little as possible. This is due to the fact that we are asking those who volunteer to come and help us for only two hours and then we want them to join in on all the fun activities for the day. To get this many people to help will require our local churches, organizations and local businesses to create a team of eight members within their group to then offer to join us and offer two hours of their time to help during the day. Working a shorter time requires more people to be involved, but then that is one of our major community goals. If you are a member of a church, community organization, agency or business we ask that you consider putting a team of eight people together to share the load. If you are a single individual and want to help please call and we can form a team this way as well. This is how communities are built! Call Dana Sanderson at 491-0804 and step up!
