COMMUNITY WIDE AGENCIES WORKING TOGETHER TO FORM THE SOUTH CENTRAL HUMAN TRAFFICKING COALITION
The South Central Human Trafficking Coalition formed to address the issues of human trafficking in Charles-mix county and beyond on May 2, 2019. The Coalition is the brainchild of Sister Pat Mylott of Marty, South Dakota. With her persistence and tenacity, she started contacting community agencies to get involved in addressing the many challenges we as a community face concerning human trafficking. Charon Asetoyer of the Native American Women’s Health Education Resource Center said Sister Pat contacted her as well as security staff of the Fort Randall Casino to work together to take on this issue. Everyone involved in the beginning stages of the group agreed that human trafficking is an escalating issue that is affecting our communities in the most devastating manner.
The SCHTC will bring awareness of the escalating issue of human trafficking and will use various methods to address the challenges we as a community face in Charles-Mix County and beyond. The SCHTC will bring agency training, community education, and public awareness in order to address the issues of human trafficking within our community.
We invite law enforcement, health care providers, schools, churches, and business such as hotels, bar owners, restaurants… to the table to address human trafficking and to build a strong force to fight the growing problem.
For more information on the coalition or to attend the next meeting to be held in May please contact Waylon Housman, Shelter Director at 605 487-7130.
