The Avon Community VBS was held July 31 through August 4th at the Avon City Park from 9 a.m. to noon. There were 47 students registered the first day with the theme being, “Keepers of the Kingdom.” Each day the children were taught about the Middle Ages and the Good ( God’s ) Kingdom or the Bad (Satan’s) Kingdom. King Aaron (Rush) and Lord Hayden (Talsma) did a skit introducing God’s Armor for the opening each morning. Lord Hayden was dressed in the full suit of Armor of God on Friday, as he had followed the Code of Conduct all week and was now prepared to be a knight in God’s Army. The Mission Project offering that the children brought was collected for the Sanford Castle in Sioux Falls. At the end of Bible School they had collected $681.08 which will be given to the castle. The hospital provided a shopping list that Karen Berndt and her grandchildren used to purchase the gifts for the children that are admitted to the hospital. The staff was overwhelmed by the generous supply of gifts that were purchased. Each day was filled with music, crafts, games, Bible lessons, memorizing verses, and snacks. Vonnie Hubbel came Tuesday and showed the children how to juggle after they had made balls out of rice and balloons for juggling during craft time. We hope to see you next year at VBS!
