CMC LAKE RESTORATION ORGANIZATION ANNUAL FUNDRAISER MARCH 23
The Charles Mix County Lake Restoration Organization will hold their 10th annual fund-raiser dinner Saturday, March 23 at the Duck Inn/Waddle Out, (formerly the VFW Hall) in Lake Andes.
The purpose of the annual dinner is to raise funds to continue the construction of the Park Avenue Lake Project, located at the southwest corner of Lake Andes, within the city limits of Lake Andes.
Construction of the project includes: drilling an artesian well to feed an impoundment contained by a dike that will be capped by a recreation trail. The dike will have a regulating structure to regulate flows of water into the main lake. The construction of the project is divided into three phases. The first phase is site preparation which includes clearing vegetation and debris and gathering materials for building the dike. Phase 2 would be dredging the impoundment, building the dike and placing riprap on the dike. Phase 3 would include the drilling of the well, building the trail and planting vegetation consistent with the wetlands mitigation plan.
Construction of a boat ramp, access road, and parking area, the installation of an accessible dock, parking areas for the park are planned for future development. An information kiosk has been installed at the site.
The proposed project will provide the public with a place where they can learn about native plants, wildlife, and wetlands, fish, or simply go for a pleasant walk on a trail which will total nearly a mile in length. Most users of the Project will be Lake Andes residents, however, students from the new, nearby Andes Central High School facility and other nearby school districts can be brought in to learn about the importance of water quality and habitat preservation. The site was used this past summer by the Lake Andes Food and Wellness Council for a Farmer’s Market.
