CLASSROOM OF THE WEEK

By
Ella Hamilton
Theresa Swier has been teaching 5th and 6th grade math and science and 5th grade social studies for two years. In Mrs. Swier’s room they have recently begun learning about fractions in math. In social studies they are studying the Declaration of Independence, and in science they are learning about the effects humans have on earth’s energy resources. Mrs. Swier is really looking forward to their next chapter in science, which is all about the solar system. After learning about the inner, middle, and outer planets, the student will create a model of the solar systems. These will be shared at the science fair in February. She is also looking forward to when the star base teachers come, so their whole day can revolve around science. Mrs. Swier really loves hearing her students share how they think about math word problems and numbers. She says she learns a lot about her student’s ability to critically think. Outside of school, Mrs. Swier enjoys attending events of her children and spending time with her family and friends. Some other fun facts about Mrs. Swier are that, of her siblings, she is the only girl; she has three brothers. Additionally, Mrs. Swier and her husband own an excavating business called Siouxland Utility Company.
