The Andes Central Class of 1974 recently gathered to celebrate and reminisce for their 50th class reunion. The class spent time over Fish Days weekend to celebrate this milestone and spend time together. Over 75 percent of the classes 44 graduating seniors attended the event. Four members of the class have passed away and a small memorial was on display for these members.
The class started their celebration with a Friday golf outing and evening social, then gathered to ride a float in the Fish Days parade and ended their time together with dinner and banquet on Saturday evening. The Saturday evening event was hosted by Ted and Marsha Honke.
Class president Sam Holderby credited Todd Breen with much of the contacting, organizing and preparations for the event. Other class officers were Mary Lynn Kramer, treasurer, Patricia Becker, vice president, and Debbie Larson. Superintendent was William Carda and principal was Errol Johnson.
One of the notable highlights of 1973-1974 was the record 8-0 football season. Coach Don Harrell, who was at that time a teacher and football coach, attended the reunion as a special guest. The team held 7 of their 8 opponents scoreless and 8 players were named to the all-conference team.
Holderby thanked all classmates for attending and especially those who contributed to the planning and hosting of the event. “It seems like we have more in common now than we did in high school! AARP, social security and senior discounts,” he added with a laugh.
