Cloud Crest (Logan Stokes and Caroline Johnson) are pictured performing at the 2018 Burke Stampede Idol Contest. Dustin Swatzel, Kylee Miller and The Kings Men along with Cloud Crest survived round one judging with Cloud Crest being the ultimate winners by vote of the judges and the crowd in last year’s contest. The Stampede Idol Contest has become a must see kick off to the Burke Stampede Rodeo. This year the Idol Contest will be held on Thursday, July 18th at 7:00 PM at the Stampede Arena in Burke, South Dakota.

An added attraction in the spirit of our 30th year of outstanding entertainment will be the trailing of the Broncs from the Muddy Creek and Nixon ProRodeo Company down Burke’s main street ahead of the Longhorns. Don’t miss this historic trail down Burke’s mainstreet at 4:30, then follow them out to the rodeo grounds where volunteers will serve up roast beef and authentic cream can feed chuckwagon style at 6:00 PM and top it off with and evening of great entertainment, the Idol contest at 7:00 PM

This year’s Idol Contest promises to be better than ever as it will feature a battle of the past Stampede Idol winners. All 10 past winners have committed to being there.

During the Stampede Idol Contest each year the committee auctions off the rights to enjoy the rodeo in air conditioned comfort from the “best seats in the house”, the box seats located over the bucking chutes. It is quite a view and quite a feel when they run in the bucking horses and bulls. The VIP box will be available for all three performances of the Burke Stampede Rodeo. In the past the Stevicks-Connot family whose idea and effort made the box a reality, always filled the seats with family on Saturday night. This year they are offering Saturday night to the lucky high bidder.

This year’s Stampede Rodeo is the 30th annual and promises to be one of the area’s finest rodeos. Make plans to attend all three performances July 19th, 20th, and 21st at 7:00 PM at the Stampede Arena. Come early and come hungry as the Stampede concessions featuring roast beef sandwiches, nachos and more are as legendary as the Stampede Rodeo!!
