BRUNSSEN BLISTERS FIELD, TAYLOR REPEATS FRIDAY AT WAGNER
The Fort Randall Casino Weekly Racing Series made its second appearance at Wagner Speedway this past Friday night and the fans were treated to great dirt track racing on a beautiful evening.
With 18 cars taking the green flag in the Roth Custom Farming IMCA Hobby Stocks division, it did not take long for Kaylb Brunssen (LeMars, IA) to make his statement. In just his second full year in a Hobby Stock, Brunssen started inside row four and sliced through the field from there, picking up the impressive victory. Following Brunssen were Joel McGee (Palm Beach Gardens, FL), Tony Fetterman (Elk Point) who started eighth, Stephanie Reynolds (Norfolk, NE) and Lowell Janssen (Yankton). Heat races were won by Nate DeSive (O'Neill, NE), Joel McGee and Kaylb Brunssen.
The Ponca Valley Seeds IMCA Northern Sport Mods would follow. After a seemingly sure victory last week was snatched from him because of mechanical problems, Dudley Schroeder, Jr (Armour) would have luck on his side this week. The defending champion of this class would showcase his talent and horsepower to hold off hard charges from the rest of the field. Following Schroeder was Rusty Montange (North Sioux City, SD) from seventh, last week's winner Josh Pfeifer (St. Paul, NE) from eighth, Luke Jackson (Sioux City, IA) from ninth and Tyler Afrank (Norfolk, NE) from tenth. Heat races were won by Dudley Schroeder, Jr and Josh Pfeifer.
Next on the docket would be the Mark's Machinery IMCA Stock Cars and Greg Taylor (Sioux City, IA) remained perfect. Taylor began his quest from the fifth position and would cruise from there to pick up the repeat triumph. Brady Wenzlaff (Yankton) settled for second, Brenton Palmer (Sioux City, IA) from his seventh starting spot took third with Joey Jaton (Wagner) and Todd Gereau (Sioux City, IA) rounding out the top five. Heat races were won by Greg Taylor and Joey Jaton.
For the past year and two races, it was a safe bet that a driver with the last name Brown would capture the checkers in the Payer Livestock IMCA Sport Compacts, but on this night, a new sheriff would show the badge. Trent Reed (Missouri Valley, IA) took the green from the fifth starting spot and worked his way to the front, getting by both Taylor Brown (Yankton) and Taylor's brother and defending champion Conner Brown (Yankton) to claim top honors. Conner and Taylor would finish second and third respectfully, with Jordan Runge (Magnolia, IA) from his eighth starting spot and Auston Honeycutt (Sioux City, IA) rounding out the top five. Heats were won by Trent Reed and Conner Brown.
The final race of the evening saw the CHS Farmer's Alliance Late Models hit the high banks with Jared Hoerle (Chambers, NE) making it look easy. From his front row starting spot, "Swifty" held off charges from last week's winner Eric Vanosdall (Hoskins, NE) who settled for second. Jared Jelsma (Springfield) garnered third with Joh Haase (Plainview, NE) from his eighthstarting spot and Jim Johnson (Plainview, NE) capping off the top five. Heat races were won by Brad Vogt (Pierce, NE) and Doug Tomka (Stanton, NE).
