BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT FOR THE US 18 BRIDGE

By

Work continues on the bridge replacement project for the US 18 bridge over a stream into St. Francis Bay. The bridge is being replaced due to being at the end of its expected lifespan and increased maintenance costs. There is also grading work being completed to improve safety and meet current roadway standards, and intersection modifications at the US 18 and SD 50 junction in Lake Andes. By squaring up this intersection, it will make it easier to see oncoming traffic and improve safety.

According the SD DOT website, the current schedule shows the bridge being re-opened in late June, weather dependent. The contractor may use single lane closures to safely perform work on or adjacent to the roadway at that time.

Through traffic continues to be detoured on U.S. Highway 18, S.D. Highway 50, and S.D. Highway 46 to get around the closed bridge. North Point Recreation Area is accessible from the north (Lake Andes).
