All six BHSA girls would come home with medals at the 40th annual Dan Pansch Invitational Girls Wrestling Tournament at Brandon Valley January 6. The team finished in fourth place with 61 points in the 11-team field.
Britney Rueb-126 took the championship with her pin in 2:37 over teammate Hadlee Kracht in the finals. Earlier Britney received a bye, won by fall over Kali Mangelsen (Norfolk) in 3:50 and over Rylee Bird (Dell Rapids) in :36.
Hadlee Kracht-126 (unattached) had a bye, won by fall over Rachel Dagel (Sioux Falls Roosevelt) in :41, won by fall over Mariah Ham (Norfolk) in :34 before losing to Britney in 2:37 to finish second.
Leah Whittington-132 lost by fall to Brenna Reker (Brandon Valley) in 1:56, won by decision 11-4 over Aubrey Graves (Western Christian), lost by major decision 13-1 to Rory Vrbsky (Norfolk) and placed fifth with a win over Jaelyn Carrizales (Sioux Falls Roosevelt) by medical forfeit.
Bailey Kemnitz-138 lost by fall to Abigail Kats (Western Christian) in 1:23, had a bye, won by fall in 2:31 over Mikayla Hight (Dell Rapids) in 2:31 and in the consolation match lost to Kats (Western Christian) by fall in :52 to finish fourth.
Ashley Tolsma-185 had a bye, lost to eventual champion Lilian Hamner (Brandon Valley) by fall in 2:44, won by fall over Paola Fernandez (Huron) in 1:52 and in the consolation match lost to teammate Hope Kemnitz by fall in 2:26 for fourth place.
Hope Kemnitz-185 (unattached) won by fall over Paola Fernandez (Huron) in 5:06, lost to Josie Becker (Dell Rapids) by fall in 5:11, had a bye and won the consolation match to teammate Ashley in 2:26 to finish in third place.
Norfolk won the tournament with 206.5 points, followed by Brandon Valley 95, Dell Rapids 92, Bon Homme-Scotland-Avon 61, Huron 52, Western Christian, Ia. 50, Yankton 41, Sioux Falls Roosevelt 37, Chamberlain 27, Vermillion 17 and Sioux Falls O’Gorman 11.
With two girls wrestling unattached, we only had four who could score team points, so they did a nice job. Better yet, all six had placed which shows they are improving
