BILL HUMMEL, ANDES CENTRAL PRINCIPAL
INTRODUCING
If you've attended recent sporting activities you've heard his voice fill the gym, but do you know the man behind that voice. Let's meet Mr. Bill Hummel, Andes Central High School principal.
Mr. Hummel graduated from Westfield High School in Iowa in 1981. He graduated from USD with an Education Degree in 1985 and went to work for his folks for the next 25 years and eventually bought out the family businesses. Hummel owned and operated many businesses in that time frame, including: heating and cooling, hardware store, grocery store, grain elevator, propane delivery, appliance repair, mower repair, and finally a family oriented sports bar serving pizza and other fried delicacy's. He sold the businesses in 2008 and pursued teaching once again as a substitute. In the spring of 2009, Bill was accepted into the PDC program at USD. PDC is a mentor/mentee relationship (he was the mentee) within a school district. The PDC program allowed him to gain his Master’s degree and he was hired by his host school district of Gayville-Volin. He spent the next eight years with GVHS and once again got involved with the PDC program (as a mentor) and received his Specialists degree in Administration in 2017.
Hummel heard about the Andes Central job through a teacher friend that worked there so he applied and here he is today.
"I love people, education keeps me involved in the lives of my students and I get to work with staff members that share their various thoughts and experiences," commented Hummel.
"My biggest challenge right now is the learning curve of the job. Although college prepares you for the many different situations, I find that I am always dealing with something new each day," Hummel added.
In his spare time he enjoys following his son in his sporting endeavors, grand kids, boating, fishing, golf, and honey do's.
Bill's wife, Dr. Tamra Hummel, has her doctorate in education and is the executive director of head-start in Wagner. They have four sons: Derek, Auri, Luke and Aaron. Derek owns his own fitness center in Gretna NE, Auri is an executive with Coca Cola in Omaha, Luke is a sophomore at SDSU and Aaron is a sophomore at Andes Central. They also have three grandchildren.
My main message is to the community, this is your school and you are welcome here. Please feel free to come and see us!
Bill has had a very busy start to his career here at Andes Central, first with the new position, getting to know the staff and students and then moving into a nice new facility over the Christmas break. Be sure and welcome Bill and his family to the school and the area.
