BASKETBALL: KAYDENCE METZGER
This week's athlete of the week is Kaydence Metzger. Kaydence is a freshman at AHS, and she plays for the Lady Pirates basketball team. Kaydence is the daughter of Bridgette Muller and Sam Metzger, and she has two siblings, Keagan and Kyzleigh. Kaydence started playing basketball in 3rd grade because her mom was the coach. Kaydence’s favorite memory from basketball is when she was a manager and the girls made it to the SoDak 16. Kaydence prepares for big games by staying calm and always doing the best she can. Basketball has challenges every day for Kaydence, but she overcomes them by trying her best every day. When asked if she has any pregame rituals or superstitions, she said that she always plays with a piece of gum in. Kaydence likes playing basketball because she gets to spend time with her best friends. Kaydence balances basketball and academics by using her time wisely. A typical practice for Kaydence is fun, but also serious when needed. The skill Kaydence is working to improve is her confidence. Kaydence stays motivated during tough times in the season by relying on God to help her through any hard days. The best piece of advice a coach has ever given her is to be confident. Kaydence enjoys her time outside by spending time with friends and family, sleeping, and shopping. If Kaydence wasn’t playing basketball, she would play tennis because it would be super fun and competitive.
