Drew Hento, Avon School District graduate and alumni, has returned to his alma mater this fall to teach fourth grade for the Avon School District. Drew is a 2006 graduate of Avon High School who then attended Dakota State University to obtain his teaching degree. Drew was very excited to hear that Avon had an opening and was hoping to get to teach at a smaller school district. He is very grateful that the Avon School District welcomed him back. This is Drew’s first year teaching; he completed his student teaching at the Harrisburg School District, where he student taught fourth grade as well. Drew had been working at an insurance office in Tea prior to taking the position in the Avon school. When asked what made Drew want to be a teacher, he said that when he was considering career options, he looked at the many teachers that were a part of his family. He saw how much they always seemed to enjoy their job and admired how they were able to make an impact in their respective communities through teaching. Drew decided that he wanted to be able to do the same. As this is Drew’s first teaching job, he is really excited to get to work and is looking forward to getting to know his students while helping them learn and grow throughout the school year. Goals that Drew has for himself this year are to work on developing his teaching methods and to work hard to make his lessons engaging so that his students will want to learn the material. In addition to his teaching duties, Drew is also the Head Jr. High Football Coach as well as an Assistant Coach of the Avon varsity football team. Right now, Drew does not have a lot of free time between coaching and lesson planning, but when he does, he enjoys watching movies and sports. Drew has a cat. His favorite books and movies are the Lord of the Rings series. One item on Drew’s bucket list is to do some traveling with one of those bucket list destinations being New Zealand.
